Businesses could soon be able to use a new village of shipping containers in Cardiff as their offices if plans are approved by the council. Office letting firm Meanwhile Creative wants to set up a three-storey development of 48 shipping container units at its base off Curran Embankment.
The company, which operates flexible office space in Cardiff, Bristol and Manchester, also wants to install external walkways and stairs, and shared communal terraces as part of the shipping container development. It is one of a number of developments involving shipping containers being planned in Cardiff.
Meanwhile Creative has already installed the ground floor shipping container units and two first floor units, and is also applying retrospectively for permission to continue housing these container units. If Cardiff Council allows the planning application it would be a few streets away from where another development involving shipping containers – this time to provide shelter to rough sleepers – is being planned in Bute Street.
Cardiff Council and Cadwyn Housing Association have agreed to set up 13 one and two-bed flats in shipping containers in Bute Street, and a second scheme to deliver eight homes for homeless families within the grounds of Greenfarm Hostel in Ely.
